Teaching Struggling Readers: Nov. 9th Teacher Workshop Facilitated by DuEwa Frazier in Jefferson Cit


On Friday, November 9th DuEwa facilitated an all day professional development workshop titled "Teaching Struggling Readers." Twenty teachers were in attendance in Jefferson City for a day of professional learning and collaboration. DuEwa shared strategies for introducing grades 6-12 students to high interest texts on a variety of themes. DuEwa discussed how to help student make connections to the text, and express themselves in writing. During the segment on Teaching Informational Text and Text Complexity DuEwa showed teachers how to help students identify helpful text features and ways of using informational text. Participating teachers shared reading strategies they currently use with students. The workshop ended with teachers planning a future lesson for students using a high interest text. It was an enjoyable day of teacher learning!
