DuEwa Frazier, began making her mark as a spoken word artist, in Summer 1999 when she featured at the Multi-State Poetry Slam in Philadelphia, PA. Since then DuEwa has been called a “gifted and conscious performing poet” and “one of the illest wordsmiths breathing!” Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, DuEwa has featured at slam venues, colleges, festivals, public schools, museums and other institutions including: Bowery Poetry Club and the famed Nuyorican Poet’s Café (NYC), Bohemian Caverns (DC), Howard University, Legacy Bookstore & Café (St. Louis), Temple University, October Gallery (Philadelphia), Indianapolis Book Festival, University of Pennsylvania, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Westhill High School (CT) La Pena Cultural Center (Berkeley, CA) and others. She has performed with hip hop, funk, acoustic and jazz musicians in the Tri-State area and in Philadelphia. She has featured on the following panels: Temple University’s Sisters Defining Sisters Conference, AV Magazine’s Cultural Circle Conference, “We Drive the Market” Harlem Book Fair Panel, Sista Cypher: Battling a Bad Rap Hip Hop Panel and others. Her reach as a dynamic artist is also felt through literature and publishing as she is Founder/CEO of Lit Noire Publishing and the producer of Word Canvas poetry events in New York City. Frazier is the author of two highly reviewed volumes of poetry: Shedding Light From My Journeys and Stardust Tracks on a Road. She is the Editor of the 2007 NAACP Image Award Nominated anthology, Check the Rhyme: An Anthology of Female Poets & Emcees (July 2006). Her writing has featured in publications such as Essence Magazine, Drumvoices Revue, Poetry Ink Anthology, Allhiphop.com, X Magazine, Mosaic Literary Magazine and others. DuEwa has been profiled and interviewed in: Femmixx.com, Booking Matters Magazine, St. Louis American, St. Louis Argus, Awareness Magazine, Rolling Out Urbanstyle Weekly, The Ave Magazine, About a Book Mondays blog and others. She earned the B.A. degree in English from Hampton University and the M.S.Ed. degree from Fordham University. She has taught students on the elementary and secondary school levels and adults in the area of Adult Basic Education. A talented actress, Frazier wrote and performed her first one-woman dramatic play at The Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe, titled “Flash Femininity” in 2004. In 2005 she featured in the arts documentary film “Rhyme and Reason.” She performed in the play “Ice Floes” at 2007 The Looking Glass Winter Forum in New York City.
